REVIEW: The Body Shop | Instablur™

Thursday 19 February 2015

If you haven't heard of The Body Shop Instablur ™ then I am afraid I have no idea where you've been. Worst of all, you don't know what a great primer you're missing out on. To say that the hype surrounding this product is well-deserved would be an understatement. I picked it up after seeing it featured in so many 2014 beauty favourites - I haven't looked back since.

As an All-In-One Five Action Perfector, not only does it prime your skin amazingly, hereby extending your make-up's staying power, it also smooths out your skin, lessening the appearance of blemishes, reducing the appearance of pores and giving you a nice, unified finish. The 12h shine control is the massive cherry on top, since it keeps my skin mattified without drying it out, therefore reducing considerably the oil-slick imitation my T-zone likes to do at the least convenient moment without reducing it into a dry, flakey mess which is not something you want with foundation (or in general). The Community Fair Trade Marula oil also gives this primer a pleasant, soothing herb-y scent that I personally love.

One thing I'm not particularly keen about with this primer, however is the consistency, of it when it comes out of the tube. The first time I used it, I lost a chunk of it down the bathroom drain because it just rolled off the back of my hand before I could apply it to my face. Once it's smoothed on the skin, however, the consistency is lovely, giving an almost velvet-like finish. I do find that the Instablur works better with liquid concealers, like my Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. I find that the KIKO Full Coverage concealer goes a little tacky. As for foundations, I've not had any problem with either liquid or powder foundations. I love the look of the Instablur with The Body Shop Extra Virgin Minerals™ Loose Powder Foundation actually.

If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it.

Have you tried it? Or do you prefer another primer?
